It's all about the detail.

The following three photos are the same one, just different crops.

Absurdly Extreme Crop

Pushing the limits, this extreme crop is only about 1/120th of the original photo.  The photo was not taken for this purpose, it's just one of many from a great photoshoot.  At this level some advanced software enhancement is necessary, but probably much less than you expect.

High detail is an understatement.

Extreme Crop

At this level, you can still make large prints with great detail.  No software sharpening necessary, but may be used if desired.  Still far more crop than used typically, roughly 1/30th of the original image.

Sometimes used for new artistic looks to much larger photos.

Original Full Crop

Full view of the originally captured image, the detail is so high you can view it on a big screen TV or print it as a very large poster without losing any perceivable definition.  This is the standard that all of my work is based on.

For Photography Geeks

I have no reason to hide my gear and techniques, photography is a passion and I wish others the highest success possible.

Cameras

Primary camera is a Sony A7rIV, 61MP with a plethora of customized settings based on the individual shoot, saving to one of several Sandisk Image Mate A1 128Gb cards.  Backup camera is a Canon T7i, the one taken on deployment for some of the Navy photos on this site.

Lenses

I currently use four lenses for the A7rIV: Sony Zeiss Batis 85mm f/1.8, Voigtlander Nokton 50mm f/1.2, Viltrox AF 16mm f/1.8, and Sony 200-600 GM.  For the Canon I use a Tamron 18-400mm f/3.5-6.3.  The Sony 85mm is the sharpest, while the Tamron is the least sharp- but expectedly so with such a wide zoom range.

Lighting

Single off-camera flash as needed: Neewer Vision 4 with Godox 37" octagon softbox or Godox 12"x62" softbox and diffuser.  If on-camera is required, a Godox TT685ii-S with mini softbox.  Color: Dual Viltrox K90 LED bars or plug-in LED bulbs/strands.
